NYC (I survived alternate side parking)

Today was a low key day in terms of destinations. I had to be “home” from 11:30-1:00 to sit with my car so that I could move it for street cleaning. That in itself was quite the experience. The cleaning truck showed up around 11:45. I was able to quickly move my car to the other side of the street. But many other cars were not moved and the truck had a very difficult time navigating the narrow street. And of course traffic piled up behind it. Somehow I managed a reverse diagonal after it had cleared to reclaim my original spot. However I was advised to stay with the car until 1:00 in case the cops decided they needed to issue some extra tickets to meet their quota. Some were walking around, but they did not seem to be interested in any of the cars. I did take advantage of being stuck here in the morning to get my laundry done. This is a very classic NY apartment building. Laundry is in the basement, modernized by a key card payment.

The parking situation resolved for the rest of the weeks, I headed out on foot, One route that had been recommended was talking the Mcombs Dam Bridge to cross into the Bronx. Originally T had planned to come with me, but she had to attend to a last minute work obligation. So I was on my own. Exiting the bridge, you are greeted by Yankee Stadium. The bridge was frustrating because the chain link barriers interfered with photographs. The Bronx itself did not summon me. I’m sure there are interesting destinations, but by that time I was hot, sweaty and tired. So I just turned around and walked back.

The rest of the week should bring some more classic NYC experiences in Manhattan.
