The Grand Canyon

read the post
Today was a day for iconic images. While I have rafted the Grand Canyon I have never spent time on the rims. Because the North Rim was already closed for the winter, I a visiting the South Rim. Some of the roads that would normally be closed were actually open today. So I took advantage of that opportunity. That will change tomorrow with the storm coming in tonight.

The first time one photographs a place, especially one as majestic as the Grand Canyon, it is all about attempting to capture the iconography. So most of these images, while appealing (I hope) are not particularly novel or creative. I did try to capture a few less obvious images, in particular taking advantage of the snow. Most of those will be found in the gallery.

I did have one wildlife photo-op. A couple of female elk literally crossing the road. It was not a great situation, so I went with the humorous image. Please note that I did not get out of my vehicle, I did not chase the animal, and I did not attempt a selfie. Actually no-one else did either, which was a pleasant change from the daily news stories of brain-dead tourists being gored by bison or falling over cliff edges.

As I mentioned yesterday, there is a pretty substantial storm coming in tonight. Stay tuned for whether I actually get out of here tomorrow.

You will find quite a few more images in the gallery.
