I started the morning with a hike on the Deer Creek trail which circumnavigates the interior of the park. Unfortunately the promised wildlife did not materialize. I was out at first light. It was chilly, but above freezing, and clear and calm. No particular reason for the wildlife to be hiding. But all I saw were some bluejays, robins and crows.
I took the middle of the day to do some organization and headed back out to the Missouri River backwaters trail later in the afternoon. An eagle did show up, but one fly-by did not a photo-op make. I had to content myself with a deer, a turtle, and a landscape shot.
In sum, this park is very pleasant, but the wildlife was elusive and the landscape is sort of a one trick pony. At least I captured a few decent sunsets.
Tomorrow I travel west to Valentine in search of more Nebraska scenery and wildlife.
