Knoxville (and a relatively cheap lesson)

Today I drove the 2 hr. 45 min. to Knoxville to visit a friend who teaches at the University there. I knew that I would be visiting her, but had not taken advance account of the distance - or that I would lose an hour driving because Tennessee is bisected by the CST/EST time zone. I didn’t even realize it until I was on my way and E. texted to say she was at our meeting place, and I saw that I was still an hour out. Even after I passed the road sign that said entering EST, my GPS ETA took another few minutes to change. While I know better than to blindly trust GPS, I really would have expected it to take time zones into account when giving me an ETA. So, shame on Google, I guess. And now I know to double check. I believe there are at least a couple of other states that split time zones.

Fortunately E. was very flexible and patient with me, and we still had a really nice visit. Because of the long drives both ways, the only chance I had for photos was on our short walk around Knoxville. E. had anticipated what I might be looking for took me straight to an alley with graffiti. So today’s few images (not my best work, but not every day can be) are all abstracts, several of which remind us that I am in brick building territory.

Tomorrow I plan to take a much-needed nature break.
