Ironton to Kansas City

This morning I traveled West to Kansas City. Kansas City actually spans the border between Missouri and Kansas. Most of it is in Missouri, but a small piece of it is in Kansas. I’ll have to get the history on that while I am here. I made a point to pass through Jefferson, which is actually the capitol city of Missouri. It was a long enough drive that I did not take the time to tour the inside, but I had a quick lunch in the very cute, if small, downtown area.

Upon arriving in Kansas City, I took a short walk outside to get a feeling for the neighborhood. A lot of it is done in a distinctly Mediterranean style, which was a bit disconcerting for a midwestern state. I felt like I was back in the Southwest or California. Taj, at the front desk, told me that this area has undergone substantial redevelopment and the style was purposeful.

The heat wave appears to be ending and the temperatures look to be pleasant for the near future. Although I could not help but notice that this morning’s national weather map brought the first freeze warnings to several of my upcoming states.

I have a couple of museums planned for tomorrow.
