Lucia to Malibu

The day dawned cloudy but mercifully dry. A short break before the rain resumes tomorrow. As I’ve already mentioned, I had to drive back up to Monterey before heading south on 101 due to Hwy 1 still being closed south of Lucia due to the rockfall, which added 2 hours to my anticipated travel time. So it was nice to stop for a short break in Santa Barbara to visit Hook & Press , recommended by my friends and neighbors G & T. This coffee and donut shop is run by Denise and John (Denise is the daughter of T) and features local organic ingredients. They also serve savory options for breakfast.

Hook & Press was voted Best Donut Shop in Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara Independent’s Annual Readers’ Poll in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and was named in both USA Today and Food Network on their lists of Best Restaurants in Santa Barbara.

Fueled by a cup of their excellent coffee, I completed the last 1.5 hr. of the drive down to Malibu where I will spend one night before continuing to San Diego tomorrow.
