This morning I drove south to California. Grant’s Pass is only about an hour from the border. I Have to admit that I grew a bit misty-eyed when the GPS announced “welcome to California” at the same time I arrived at the sign. For once there was a nice pull-off, allowing me to get out and take my own photo rather than download an image from the internet.
My first stop was California Smog and Auto Detail in Crescent City. One of the practicalities of this trip is that my car registration expires on December 24 and in California we need to pass a smog inspection every two years before we can complete the registration. This was one of the years. They were great and took care of me immediately; fortunately Lucy II passed - not necessarily a given as she is coming up on a couple of decades (2005). But all is good and I was then able to complete my registration on-line.
I then continued down to the town of Klamath where I will spend the (of course rainy) day tomorrow somewhere in the Redwood forest.
