Easton to Ocean City, MD

read the post
This morning I drove further east, to the Eastern Seaboard of MD. The peninsula is actually divided between VA, MD and DE.

Like all of these places, Ocean City has a boardwalk. It is actually a pretty fun one, with lots going on. It is all completely kitchy, with cheap souvenir shops, food stalls and henna tattoo artists. This boardwalk also has a ferris wheel and water slide, although neither were in operation. There is also a lot of funky art, both installed and spontaneous. The place has character - and characters. I had stopped to take some images of the balloons, when a young woman approached me and asked if I took pictures of people. I said, of course I would be happy to take some photos of her. It turns out she is from Turkey and working here for the summer. Damla was just interested in making a memory, for which I was more than happy to oblige. We had a fun little photo session. She was a great model and we both came out ahead.

I had a drink and some oysters during happy hour at Coastal Salt , one of the nice restaurants on the boardwalk and conveniently next door to my hotel. The food was good and company excellent. Zach and Ryan were my bartenders, both very cool and friendly guys. Ryan was sitting at the bar with me. He grew up with Zach just a few towns over. I also had a nice conversation with Bob, who was a repeat customer. The atmosphere was so congenial that I may make a return visit myself tomorrow.

Tomorrow I’ll drive down to Assateague Island National Seashore in search of wild horses.
