This morning I drove to the Southernmost city in Ohio, Cincinnati. Just across the Ohio River, and connected by several bridges, is Kentucky.
My first destination was
Lotus Thai and Sushi to meet friends for lunch. We had a nice time catching up, then they returned to work and I went off to explore Cincinnati. Immediately I could see that Cincinnati is a more modern and refined city than Cleveland. And, like many cities that grew up next to a river, very much about the bridges.
I first walked across the
Roebling suspension bridge into KY and back again. I then walked over to the
Purple People Bridge and also walked across it and back. So I crossed into KY twice today.
Having gotten a feel for Cincinnati, I decided to treat myself to dinner at
Mita’s Restaurant . This is a high end tapas place and the food was excellent. I guess I was a bit early, at least for a Thursday in Cincinnati, as the bar was very quiet. However Andrew, my bartender, kept me company.
As this is my last few days in OH, I wanted to comment on the recent
special election . The issue was a bit complex and convoluted. Coming up in November is vote to add abortion rights to the State constitution. 57 percent of Ohioans support adding abortion rights to the constitution, 24 percent are opposed and 20 percent are undecided. Issue 1 in this special election proposed raising the bar to amend the constitution from a simple majority to 60 percent. The election was widely regarded as a proxy fight over abortion. Ohio voters rejected Issue one by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent. It remains to be seen what will be the outcome of the November election.
This afternoon I also received the good news that Canon completed the repair on my lens in one business day and has already shipped it back. Apparently someone was actually paying attention as it is scheduled to arrive here in Cincinnati tomorrow. I have to say that I am impressed with Canon’s technical and customer service. So far they are two for two.
Tomorrow I will visit the National Underground Freedom Center. It has been a while since I visited a museum dedicated to civil rights, so I’ll be interested to see how this one presents the issues.
