Chicago [last look]

I woke up this morning to yet more unpredicted rain. The front apparently stalled over the city because the predicted end kept getting extended. I finally put on my rain jacket and grabbed my umbrella and headed out.

My first stop was Macy’s, formerly Marshall Fields, to view the Tiffany glass dome ceiling created in 1893. I would not have known to even look for it but for a suggestion by my friends at dinner the other night. Apparently there is yet more Tiffany glass in the Cultural center, but I will not make it to see that this trip.

I then headed over to meet another friend, J., for lunch. He teaches at the law school, so we met near there as he was squeezing me in between classes. We had a nice, if somewhat too short, time catching up.

I then walked over to Union station to see the Great Hall. Like many of these places, it was difficult to photograph. They had hung a flag from one balcony, so either I shot from the other end, with the flag in the shot, or tried to shoot around the flag. Neither was a great solution. Oh well.

Tomorrow I am taking a quick trip back to CA for a friend’s wedding. Assuming the travel gods cooperate, it will be an overnight, and I’ll be back on Sunday to drive up to Wisconsin to continue by trip. I will purposefully not be stopping at my house, rather staying at a hotel near the airport. I felt that would be less disruptive to the journey. Stay tuned ....
