Today was mostly a slog. I’ve tried as much as possible to avoid very long drives, but occasionally they can’t be avoided. Sometimes backtracking also can’t be avoided. Both came into play today. The drive from Tucson, AZ to Zion National Park in UT was a good 10 hours with the necessary stops.
One of those stops was a very brief visit to Arcosanti , an attempted prototype for architect Paolo Soleri’s vision of an arcology . According to the website, Arcosanti, founded in 1970, is a project of The Cosanti Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire a reimagined urbanism that builds resilient and equitable communities sustainably integrated with the natural world.
Fortunately I had clear dry conditions for moar of the drive. I arrived at the entrance to Zion at dusk, and had to navigate the windy icy road to my lodgings in the Park. I was glad to arrive just before dark as that is not a road that I would care to navigate at night.
I have visited Zion twice previously, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. Tomorrow will be spent exploring Zion National Park in the winter. A very different experience.
